This book is about three little girls growing up in the 1900's. This book shows the struggles these three girls went through, growing up in Lorain, Ohio. The book is focused mainly on one little girl named Pecola. Pecola had always wished for blue eyes. The reason, because she wanted to be beautiful and loved just as much as the blond, blue-eyed children. Through her eleven years of life, it had always been rough. Her mother and father always fighting in front of her and her little brother, causing him to runaway on many occasions. Her father always coming in drunk, and her mother always finding something to bicker and argue about. Pecolas life really changed dramatically one summer. Her father had came in one evening in a drunken stupor, and raped her. A little while later they had found out that pecola was pregnant. Before this incident, the other two little girls, Claudia and Freida had known pecola from going to school with her. They had often played with her, and knew about her family. All three of them had became really close. When they found out about pecola being pregnant they felt sorry for her, because people wanted her to get rid of the baby, and they wanted to help her. In the end pecola moved in with Freida and Claudia, to get help with the baby, but unfortunatley the baby died. All in all pecola was a poor little girl who longed for blue eyes, because it would stop her pain of loneliness and fear, and being an outcast
